Officer of the Quarter - First Quarter

The Foundation is happy to be able to provide a cash award on behalf of the citizens of the City of Lynchburg to the Officer of the Quarter: Officer S.A. Rippy.

On November 13, 2023 while on routine patrol, Officer Rippy observed flames coming from a house on Wise Street. As he approached the front door of the residence, flames had almost completely engulfed the rear portion of the house.
Officer Rippy requested assistance from the Lynchburg Fire Department and immediately tried to get someone to the front door of the residence. He quickly determined the residence had been converted into a rooming house and recognized there were likely several people inside. Without hesitation, he forced entry into the building and started evacuating the occupants.

As Officer Rippy entered the structure, flames and smoke from the fire were clearly visible but he continued to push forward through the home. With the assistance of other officers, Officer Rippy was able to evacuate all of the occupants in the house without injury.

Officer Rippy disregarded his own safety to protect those in danger. There is no doubt that his quick thinking and heroic actions went well above the call of duty and saved the lives of everyone inside this home.

Officer Rippy’s selfless actions and bravery exemplify his commitment to our community. Great job, Officer Rippy. We are fortunate to have you at the Lynchburg Police Department.
