Professional Staff of the Quarter - First Quarter

The Foundation is happy to be able to provide a cash award on behalf of the citizens of the City of Lynchburg to the Professional Staff of the Quarter: John Arnold.

In his role as an Information Technology Project Manager for the department, John Arnold is responsible for a wide range of duties that benefit all aspects of our operations. His knowledge, skills, and abilities are a tremendous asset; however, these attributes are often overshadowed by his willingness to help others, which combined, make him an exceptional employee.

In early March, while managing data sets in our reporting system, the Intelligence Unit encountered a coding problem and turned to John for assistance. John assisted Detective Gavin in the Intel Unit office, where he developed a work around in Crystal Reports (a programming language he does not often use), which identified and separated victims per offense in an incident report.

John was also instrumental during the vendor showcases for a new records management system. He posed several questions of the vendors from an IT viewpoint, but also addressed concerns from the perspective of employees across the organization who will have to interact with the new software. John’s knowledge, insight, and forethought helped shape conversations around what is one of the most impactful products the PD uses on a daily basis.

John is an invaluable team member of our department. Thank you for your work in improving and maintaining the critical infrastructure that keeps the PD running.
