Officer of the Month and Quarter — September 2022

The Foundation is happy to be able to provide a cash award on behalf of the citizens of the City of Lynchburg to the September 2022 Officer of the Month: Officer Carr.

We also have the privilege to choose Officer Carr from the previous Officer of the Month recipients to receive Office of the Quarter.

During the month of August, Officer Carr responded to a reported sexual assault. The suspect had left the scene prior to her arrival. Carr quickly built a rapport with the victim and volunteered to take over as the primary officer. Carr escorted the victim to the hospital.

Officer Carr remained at the hospital throughout this process and was able to relay additional information to detectives involved with the case, ultimately confirming the identity of the suspect. Carr thoroughly explained the court processes and secured a protective order. Additionally, Carr coordinated with detectives and the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney to secure the victim’s statement for future court proceedings.

Officer Carr communicated suspect information to the oncoming shift and remained in contact with the shift until the suspect was apprehended. The following morning, the victim reached out to Carr to express her appreciation for the amount of time she spent on the case, her kind approach, and for ensuring the suspect was apprehended.

Officer Carr is commended for her work ethic, her strong communication skills, and her exceptional care and compassion for survivors of sexual assault.
