Officer of the Month
The Foundation is happy to be able to provide a cash award on behalf of the citizens of the City of Lynchburg to the Officer of the Month: Sergeant Miller .
“Detective Miller is being recognized for his dedication to justice after charging a suspect with murder on January 23, 2023.
The victim was shot and killed on June 14, 2021 in the Family Dollar parking lot. Despite having minimal leads to follow, Detective Miller spent time working on this case, every week for over 18 months. Detective Miller spoke to the family of the victim weekly since the incident occurred, and kept them updated.
Detective Miller followed up on every new piece of information that emerged, until he had enough to charge the subject. Detective Miller worked together with Special Investigation Division and the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney to build a strong case. Despite having a large caseload of other crimes to follow up on, Detective Miller continued working this case.
It is because of Detective Miller’s relentless efforts that a violent criminal has been charged for their crimes and the victim’s family can have closure.
Detective Miller is commended for his hard work, keen investigative abilities, and commitment to never giving up on this case. He was recently promoted to Sergeant after serving many years in the Criminal Investigation Division.”
The Foundation thanks Sergeant Miller for his compassion shown to the family of the victim and for commitment to the investigation ending in charges to the suspect.
