Honoring our Lynchburg Police Department
The Honor Campaign will allow the Lynchburg Police Foundation to build an Honor Garden at the new Lynchburg Police Department headquarters building and establish a permanent fund to provide programs and services to support, honor, and stand behind our LPD.

Honoring officers of the Lynchburg Police Department
Past, Present and Future
Construction is currently underway for a new facility for the Lynchburg Police Department. The erection of the building and associated grounds is providing a unique opportunity to create a lasting physical statement of community support for law enforcement.
The Lynchburg Police Foundation is asking the Lynchburg community to join with us as we honor the men and women of the Lynchburg Police Department – Past, Present and Future - who dedicate their lives to protect us.
WORKING TOGETHER IN SUPPORT OF THE HONOR CAMPAIGN:
Making a Difference.
Supporting Our Police.
Strengthening Our Community.
The “Honor Garden”
The Lynchburg Police Foundation has partnered with the Lynchburg Police Department and the City of Lynchburg to establish a legacy “Honor Garden” as part of the landscaping of this new facility. It will be a place where community members reflect on the service and sacrifice of our police officers and enjoy a tranquil park-like setting.
Among the features of the “Honor Garden” include memorials, brick walkways, benches, a fountain, lighting and statuary all designed to create a peaceful environment the public can enjoy.
The Honor Campaign
The Honor Garden is the centerpiece of the Lynchburg Police Foundation’s Honor Campaign to recognize the men and women of the Lynchburg Police Department – Past, Present and Future:
Past – The Honor Garden will contain features that serve to recognize the more than 200-year history of the Lynchburg Police Department. Most importantly the garden will honor the four officers that made the ultimate sacrifice in their service protecting our community.
Present – The Honor Garden, along with the adjacent Community Room, will provide an open and inviting environment where officers can interact with the community. The garden will symbolize to new police recruits and visitors that Lynchburg is a community that supports law enforcement.
Future – Funds raised above what is required for establishing the Honor Garden will help provide long-term maintenance of the garden and be directed to a restricted account for future existing programs of the Foundation. Among these programs includes officer recognition, continuing education and community engagement as well as the “We Care” program that provides scholarships and other forms of assistance to police officer families.
Commemorative Bricks
Individuals and businesses can purchase a 4x8-inch brick engraved with text for $100, an 8x8-inch brick with text and logo for $500 or an 8x8-inch First Watch brick with text and logo, specifically to be placed in the First Watch memorial area, for $1,000.
First Watch Donors
The first embodiment of the Lynchburg Police Department was a “Watch” or Patrol officer in 1805 when Lynchburg was first incorporated as a town. As Lynchburg grew more prosperous and became a trading hub via canals and railroads, the Common Council saw the need for a Night Watch. The Night Watch consisted of seven men who protected the entire town.
To honor these early pioneers in the history of Lynchburg law enforcement, the Lynchburg Police Foundation is offering individuals that contribute $1,000 to kick-off our campaign and become one of our “First Watch” donors. These special donors will be recognized with an 8x8-inch brick paver located in a reserved area of the Memorial Plaza. The brick pavers will surround an engraved replica of the early Lynchburg Police Badge.
Sponsoring Contribution
Your contribution is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to personally show your support. The names of donors will be permanently listed on the grounds of the garden. Contributions of $100 to $1,000 will be recognized on brick pavers that wind throughout the garden. Contributions of $2,500 to $100,000 plus will be exhibited in various ways on our donor walls.
In addition to funding construction of the Honor Garden your donation will allow the Lynchburg Police Foundation to create a reserve fund to supplement our annual contributions and ensure that the resources are available to continue supporting the Lynchburg Police Department as our community grows.
