Retired LPD Sergeant Norman Claytor, Jr. Passes

“We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Retired Sergeant Norman Claytor, Jr.

Sgt. Claytor proudly served our community for 26 years, joining the department in 1996 following his honorable service in the United States Army. Over his career, he wore many hats, from Narcotics Detective and Crisis Negotiations Team member to being named CIT Officer of the Year in 2015.

While he served with dedication and heart in all of his roles, his true home was patrol. He achieved a career dream when he was promoted to Sergeant in 2018, finishing his tenure leading B Platoon doing what he loved most.

Sgt. Claytor was fiercely proud of this department and wholly committed to the people of Lynchburg. We are truly humbled by his faith, dedication and service.

Please keep his family, loved ones, and blue family in your thoughts and prayers as we mourn his loss. He leaves behind an incredible legacy and will be profoundly missed.”
