LPD K9 Knox Retires - Thank you for your service!
After nearly a decade of service, K9 Knox is officially retiring from the Lynchburg Police Department.
Since joining the department in 2017, Knox has served our community with unwavering loyalty, dedication, and determination. During his distinguished career, he was deployed more than 1,000 times, helping officers locate narcotics, track suspects, and apprehend violent offenders. His work played a significant role in keeping dangerous individuals and illegal drugs off our city streets.
A Belgian Malinois and German Shepherd mix, Knox served alongside two handlers during his career, Officer Barb and Sgt. Reed. Together, they formed partnerships built on trust, teamwork, and countless hours of training. Knox was a valued member of the LPD.
Now, Knox is trading his vest for farm life as he retires with his handler's family. We suspect he'll spend his days roaming the property, keeping an eye on things, and making sure everyone is safe.
We wish you a long, happy retirement filled with plenty of treats, belly rubs, and well-deserved naps.
In honor of Knox and all the LPD K9s before him and those to come, the Lynchburg Police Foundation is creating a K9 Garden at the LPD headquarters as part of the Honor Garden. If you are interested in supporting, please click this link:
