Liberty University Contribution to Honor Campaign
Lynchburg Police Foundation Receives $100,000 for Honor Garden
The Lynchburg Police Foundation (LPF) is pleased to announce it has received a major donation from Liberty University toward its Honor Garden campaign.
The Honor Garden will be the exterior entryway to the new Lynchburg Police Department headquarters located at the corner of Odd Fellows Road and Albert Lankford Drive. Both the headquarters and the Honor Garden are scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2025.
“Liberty University’s contribution is significant in that it helps get the Foundation closer to its goal of a million dollars,” said Eugene Wingfield, President of LPF. “We have been amazed at the outpouring of support from local businesses and our citizens who believe in this mission to remember and honor our past, present and future police officers.
“We are grateful to Liberty,” continued Wingfield. “They are a pillar of the community, and their financial gift is a testament to their support of law enforcement and what the Honor Garden symbolizes.”
“At Liberty University, we are thankful for the men and women who wear the uniform every day and serve to keep our Lynchburg communities, schools, and streets safe,” said Liberty President Dondi Costin. “We know that our local law enforcement officers are serving the Lord as ministers of justice and so we want to show honor where honor is due. We are pleased to partner and support this community project.”
The Honor Garden will comprise two sections: the Memorial Garden will mark the names of the fallen officers who died in the line of duty and the First Watch section will symbolize Lynchburg’s officers who first took the oath to serve and protect in 1805. The Community Garden, which will feature a lighted water fountain in a parklike setting, will be where citizens can pause, reflect and honor sworn officers. Both areas are joined in the center by four bronze lions, symbolic of strength and courage.
