“One call for service or report can often turn into a much bigger case. From May to August, Detective Brown worked a swatting investigation. What began as one report quickly grew into a massive investigation involving local, state and federal law enforcement partners.
Swatting, the act of making a fake emergency call to draw a high-level armed response to a specific location, can create a lot of danger for the public and first responders. It can drain critical emergency resources and puts innocent lives directly at risk.
Over months of steady work, Det. Brown coordinated across agencies, conducted multiple key interviews, and helped untangle a web of over 1,500 incidents nationwide. His efforts helped track down several suspects, including one from the Lynchburg area.
Given the severity and scope of the threats, this active case was transferred to our partners, the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office, to pursue conspiracy and terrorism charges.
One Lynchburg Detective helped stop and link over 1,500 swatting calls.
This result is a direct reflection of Det. Brown’s relentless work ethic and dedication, not just to this community, but to all communities.
