1951 LPD Soap Box Derby Car Showcased in LPD HQ Museum
Claude and Martha Tuggle recently donated the 1951 LPD Soap Box Derby Car to the LPD as part of the LPD's future museum memorabilia. The car, built by Sgt. Tuggle (Claude's dad) and Lt. Witt, also of the LPD, was originally sponsored by LPD and raced in many races in derbies on the West End of Bedford Avenue at Rivermont Avenue (closest to Elizabeth's Early Learning Center). Claude, who was 14 at the time of the build, raced the car numerous times.
A ceremony was held at the LPD HQ where Claude and Martha were in attendance along with many family members, coming as far as North Carolina.
The Lynchburg Police Foundation donated three Honor Garden bricks in recognition of the Tuggle's support. Thank you for sharing this bit of history with our community!
