K-9 Garden Campaign
The Lynchburg Police Foundation is launching its final phase of the Honor Garden with the building of the LPD K-9 Garden in Honor of Chief Ryan Zuidema (Retired). The K-9 Garden will be adjacent to the existing Honor Garden, located at the entrance of the LPD headquarters.
For more than 40 years, the LPD K-9s have been an important element of the police department family. Not only a member of the LPD family but a family member of the LPD Officer who trusts their life to them as their handler. LPD K-9s are certified law enforcement and wear their LPD badge just like the officers.
This garden will serve to honor the commitment and sacrifice made by the LPD canines – Past, Present and Future.
The centerpiece of the K-9 Garden will be a life-size bronze statue of a police canine with the inscription, “Loyalty,” engraved in the granite stand that supports the statue. Loyalty was chosen because each canine is loyal to its handler and loyal to the community it helps protect.
How You Can Help
To cover the costs of the garden design, materials and construction, you can donate directly to the K-9 Garden Fund, sponsor a garden landmark or purchase a commemorative brick. (See below.) The K-9 Garden is estimated to cost $100,000 and upon completion will be dedicated in the Spring 2027.
All donors giving $2,500 or more will be recognized on a bronze plaque located in the garden.
Sponsorships or pledges can be made in two-year installments. Sponsorships include:
Major Donor ($50,000) – Recognized with a 12’x24’ marker in the garden walkway.
K-9 Sponsor ($35,000) – Bronze plaque on granite statue base.
Park Bench ($20,000) – Name plaque on the bench.
LPD K-9 Brick Area ($15,000) – Bronze plaque identifying sponsor.
Bronze Donor Plaque – All donors contributing $2,500 and above including sponsors
Individual Commemorative Bricks ($100 and $500) – Contributors recognized on brick pavers throughout the garden.
