Officer of the Month
November 29, 2022
Charles Warner
The Foundation is happy to be able to provide a cash award on behalf of the citizens of the City of Lynchburg to the October 2022 Officer of the Month: Officer Massie.
During the month of October, Officer Massie responded to an aggravated malicious wounding. Upon arrival, he quickly gathered information and was able to locate the victim who had been severely injured. Officer Massie immediately assessed the victim, identified the wound locations, and relayed critical information to other responding officers. He recognized the severity of the injury and requested a medical kit from arriving officers to provide necessary life-saving measures, and advised medics were needed urgently. While tending to the victim, Officer Massie directed other officers to secure the scene.
Without warning, he was confronted by the armed suspect. Officer Massie maintained his composure and ordered the suspect to stand down, while simultaneously tending to and protecting the victim so other officers could apprehend the suspect.
Officer Massie did not separate contact with the victim until he was placed on a stretcher for transport via medic. Officer Massie maintained a calm and professional demeanor during this chaotic incident, which facilitated the swift apprehension of an armed and dangerous suspect.
Officer Massie went above and beyond his expected duties to care for the victim. This incident is a demonstration of the exceptional level of work Officer Massie regularly performs in our community. He exemplifies a level of professionalism and dedication that members of the Lynchburg Police Department strive to bring to the City of Lynchburg. Officer Massie is being commended for his professionalism, bravery, compassion, commitment, and composure during extremely challenging circumstances. Great work, Officer Massie!
