Charles Warner
The Foundation is happy to be able to provide a cash award on behalf of the citizens of the City of Lynchburg to the Officer of the Month: Officer Westervelt.
Officer Westervelt is being recognized for his relentless effort in apprehending a wanted individual that spanned the course of a month. He began his attempt to locate this subject after a capias was issued by the Circuit Court for failing to appear and non-compliance with a court order. The underlying charges on this capias were abduction, strangulation, domestic assault, and multiple protective order violations.
Officer Westervelt invested a significant amount of time and effort into locating this subject due to the subject’s history of violence and the threat they posed to our community. Officer Westervelt followed multiple leads and knocked on numerous doors. He developed sources and contacts regarding the subject’s whereabouts and stayed in regular communication with the victim.
At the end of October, Officer Westervelt developed information leading to a coordinated response by officers. The subject attempted to flee on foot but was taken into custody without incident.
As the LPD Officer of the Month, Officer Westervelt is commended for his for his dedication to duty, commitment to the citizens of Lynchburg, and compassion for the victim.
